Plitvice Lakes

Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia, situated in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is world-famous for its lake system comprised of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next. In 1949 it was proclaimed Croatia's first national park, while in 1979 Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register. Each year, more than 1 million people visit this beautiful sight.
